Experts in Russian affairs and security matters are almost sure that the world is nearing a post Putin Russia, and that some top officials in Russian`s security circle are seeking ways to safely run away from the country with their families.

They also say there are clear indications that Putin`s grip on power is fast weakening following his disastrous outing in Ukraine. This were disclosed by Bellingcat’s Christo Grozev in an interview with Radio Liberty, according to Metro.

Putin`s war against Ukraine has cost the Russian military, both in terms of the life of soldiers who have died in the all most three months war, and military equipment that have been lost to the doggedness and determination of the Ukrainian defense forces.

President Putin has sustained his regime with staunch members of his inner circle and oligarchs

The costs of this war has not only been suffered by Russians but has also been suffered by Putin personally. The unending embarrassment to the hitherto feared Russian military is now beginning to cause questions to be asked in many quarters in Russia regarding Putin`s sanity, health and capacity to govern.

KEY FACTS

  • Security experts see signs that post Putin Russia may well be around the corner, following the woeful performance of his war.
  • Some security officials in the FSB and GRU are already working out terms and weighing conditions for a post-Putin Russia, according to Bellingcat’s Christo.
  • Experts in Russian affairs are of the view that senior officials in the Russian security circle believe that Putin`s war in Ukraine is already lost, and that Ukraine may likely emerge victorious.
  • These senior security officials are now so fearful of what the future holds for them in Russia. As a result, they are looking for opportunity to elope from Russia with their families

NOTABLE QUOTES

Speaking in an interview with Radio Liberty, Bellingcat’s Christo Grozev said:

“Some of them are looking for an opportunity to take their families out of Russia,”

“These are those parts of the security forces who know the dangers for the regime, and they themselves are now preparing their future,”

“This is already a kind of betrayal by these people, because they do not follow the ideological orders of the Kremlin, but are preparing for an alternative reality.” said Grozev.

BACKGROUND

President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022 with a view to capturing Kyiv within days with his special forces. Experts have said that President Putin had planned the immediate capture of Kyiv and toppling of President Zelensky.

Putin was reported to have fallen out with some top security figures in the military and intelligence agencies, including his Defense Chief

He did not expect much resistance from his democratically leaning neighbor. He had expected the Ukrainian military to surrender and capitulate to the obviously more equipped and better trained Russian military.

However, rather than surrender and run as the Russian military invaded, the Ukrainian forces stood their ground, and have since then maintained their resistance against the invasion by Putin`s forces.

Almost three months after the invasion, the war is almost stalled according to the American and UK intelligence sources and military experts.
