In a shocking turn of events, the Abia State Police have taken into custody a Pentecostal bishop, identified as Timothy Otu, in connection with the untimely death of a female evangelist named Happiness Echieze.
The incident occurred within the premises of Jubilee Guest House in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state. The apprehended bishop is reportedly the general overseer of Agape Evangelical Ministry, raising concerns over the circumstances surrounding the demise of the evangelist.
Details surrounding this tragic incident have raised eyebrows and stirred speculation within the community. According to police spokesperson Maureen Chinaka, the bishop had reportedly checked into the hotel room with the victim late in the evening on August 12th.
However, the unsettling discovery of Mrs. Echieze’s lifeless body in the hotel room the same night sent shockwaves throughout the area. The discovery of the corpse was reported the Nigerian police at Isiala-Ngwa Police Divisional Headquarters by staff of the hotel.
Speaking on the matter a spokesperson for the police, Ms Chinaka said that Mrs. Echieze’s lifeless body “was found unclothed, and a white substance was emanating from her mouth and nose. The clergyman was absent from the scene,”.
“We wish to convey that the suspected individual in this case has been apprehended. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigations,” she said.
As investigations unfold, the state’s Criminal Investigation Department is taking the lead in the case. The police spokesperson assured the public that the suspected individual, Bishop Timothy Otu, is now under custody as investigations continue. Amidst the grief and bewilderment within the community, calls for transparency, thorough investigation, and justice have grown louder.
