A man identified as Peter Orji has allegedly shot his elder brother Godwin dead during a heated argument on the payment of N1,500 electricity bill at their residence in Uruagu, in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Clariform reporters gathered that the argument about the electricity bill started on Tuesday over Peter’s refusal to pay N1,500 for his own share of the monthly electrical bill.
In other to ensure he pays the money, Clariform learned that power supply into Peter’s apartment in the house was disconnected by his brother.
According to a source in the community, Peter, who grew angry by the disconnection stormed into his apartment, brought out a gun and allegedly shot his brother to death.
After committing the crime, he reportedly rushed down to the nearest police station and surrendered himself to the police to avoid being lynched by angry mob.
However, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, while the state Police Public Relations Officer while confirming the incident said the suspect was arrested contrary to claims that he willingly surrendered himself to the police.
According to DSP Ikenga the wife of the suspect was first arrested at the crime scene. He added that the couple were currently in police custody.
DSP Ikenga made known that the state Commissioner of Police, Echeng Echeng, had ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
