In a bid to enhance the technology startup landscape in Nigeria, global technology vendor Ericsson has expressed confidence that the rollout of 5G will stimulate innovation among local startups.

The assertion was made by Hassam Kandeel, Vice President at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, during the company’s recent leadership visit to Nigeria.

Kandeel emphasized that the integration of 5G technology will usher in unprecedented opportunities for the Nigerian tech ecosystem, which has already established itself as a prominent hub for tech startups across the African continent.

Kandeel’s statements underscore Ericsson’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with Nigerian industry leaders to accelerate the country’s digital expansion.

He highlighted the manifold possibilities that 5G presents and emphasized its potential impact on driving Nigeria’s technological advancement and economic growth.

The visit aligns with Ericsson’s overarching mission to leverage connectivity and technology to propel digitalization across Africa, fostering sustainable development and progress.

Ericsson’s Ongoing Engagement and Contributions

Speaking during the visit, the Country Manager of Ericsson Nigeria, Peter Ogundele, reaffirmed Ericsson’s pivotal role in Nigeria’s digital journey. Ogundele emphasized that Ericsson remains dedicated to partnering with various stakeholders to achieve significant milestones in Nigeria’s technological landscape.

He acknowledged the telecom sector’s consistent contribution to the country’s GDP and highlighted the substantial growth in mobile money adoption, facilitated by Nigeria’s robust telecom infrastructure.

Ogundele also underlined Ericsson’s role in job creation within the country, with hundreds of Nigerians employed by the company, including participants in the Ericsson Graduate Program.

Advancing Collaboration and Innovation

Ericsson’s leadership delegation engaged in productive discussions with Nigeria’s communication service providers, stakeholders, and policymakers during their visit.

Among the topics of discussion were the pivotal role of connectivity in advancing Nigeria’s digital agenda, the potential of 5G deployment, cloud computing, and Industry 4.0 technologies.

The conversations also delved into Ericsson’s comprehensive portfolio of cutting-edge solutions and how these solutions can catalyse innovation across various sectors, addressing the evolving needs of the country and fostering collaborations that drive Nigeria’s digital transformation.
