The National Industrial Court of Nigeria on Wednesday ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off its ongoing nationwide strike.
WHAT WE KNOW
The Federal Government may have heaved a sigh of relief, as the National Industrial court of Nigerian, this Wednesday ordered the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off it`s seven months old strike.
CATCH UP
Recall that the Federal Government earlier this month, dragged ASUU before the Industrial court, declaring that talks with the university union has failed.
While negotiations lasted several meetings between ASUU and the Federal Government had ended in a deadlock.
Before approaching the court, the government had adopted a no work no pay position. Then set up a committee to review the stand before suddenly making a U-turn and approached the court.
The government, through its counsel, James Igwe, prayed the court for an interlocutory injunction restraining ASUU from taking further steps as regards the strike, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
COMMENTARY
The question on many lips is this “will the funding or non funding of education remain at this abysmal low level?
Does the FG think the present state of our public school is the best this country deserves?
If the ASUU calls off the strike, will the lecturers be committed to putting in their best? These are certainly what did government need to worry about.
