INSECURITY: The turbaning of a notorious leader of bandits in Zamfara State, Ado Aleru as Sarkin Fulani (Chief of Fulanis) by the Emir of Yandoto Daji Emirate, Aliyu Garba Marafa on Saturday has resulted to the suspension of the Emir.
The Zamfara State Government carried this suspension following the viral news of the turbaning which has since generated an outrage nationwide.
Background:
Clariform reports that some sources who spoke regarding the turbaning of the “notorious bandit leader” disclosed that the Emir was said to have opted to conferring the chieftaincy title on the bandit leader as a means of placating his criminal gang.
The sources said that the bandits had been terrorising the area for a long time without any relief from the security agencies or the government.
Government reaction:
The suspension of the Emir was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Sardauna on Sunday.
The Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle, has also approved the appointment of a Committee to investigate and scrutinize the circumstances leading to the action of the Emir.
The said investigative committee has Yahaya Goro as Chairman and Musa Garba as Secretary. Other members of the committee includes Yahay Kanoma, Muhammed Magaji, Lawal Zannah and Isa Moriki.
The official government statement regarding the suspension of the Emir also disclosed that “In the meantime, Alh. Mahe Garba Marafa, who is the District Head of ‘Yandoto is hereby assigned to take charge of the affairs of the Emirate.”
