Nigeria`s top legal officer, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has quit his job, citing health ground as the reason.
This is a developing story, which Clariform reporters are currently chasing and will bring more details subsequently.
However, current information from our sources indicates Justice Tanko Muhammad submitted his resignation on Sunday on health grounds.
This development would meant that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who is the next most senior Justice of the apex court will be taking over from Justice Tanko Muhammad, whose resignation would automatically mean retirement from the Supreme Court bench.
Our sources say that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola may be sworn into office in acting capacity within the week, as soon as formal announcement about Justice Tanko Muhammad`s resignation is made.
The retiring justice has been rumored to be suffering from serious illness hampering his ability to deliver on the tedious job.
He has also been embroiled in some controversies with his colleagues at the Supreme Court, who accused him of travelling abroad for medical treatment, while baring others from doing so.
More details later.
