Against the general expectations that the long lingering industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may be called off this week, the university lecturers has on the contrary voted for extension.
Information available confirms that ASUU has agreed to extend its current strike following several contentious debates.
This decision was reached following the National Executive Council meeting on Monday morning at the union’s headquarters at the University of Abuja.
Clariform recalls that ASUU began the on-going strike on Monday, February 14, 2022.
Ben Goong, the Federal Ministry of Education’s spokesperson, said in an interview with news reporters that the administration has done everything it could to put an end to the strike.

“As regards the next steps, the government has already inaugurated a committee to harmonise the IPPIS, UTAS, and UP3. This will ensure that the government will pay with only one payment platform that will harmonise all the technical peculiarities.”
