The Biafran question is arguably the most burning geopolitical issue today. Some may wish to argue against this proposition, but hardly will anyone doubt the controversy it exhumes. The question of Biafra has become synonymous with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). As a freedom fighter Mazi Nnamdi Kalu, the leader of the organization has put the Biafra issue on the front burner, not just in Nigeria but also on the African continent and beyond.
For a while now there is a daily breaking news around the struggle for the independence of Biafra and the relentless suppression of same by the government of Nigeria. President Buhari`s administration more than any other government have done more to crush the Biafran spirit and the freedom movement. Critics of the government have argued that Buhari have done more to forcefully quell the agitation, than it has done to find a resolution on a roundtable.
In fact, the popular view is that President Buhari has no interest in dialoging either with the Biafran agitators or with any other group, such as the Oduduwa or the Ijaw freedom fighters. Notwithstanding the apparent iron fist application and very deadly approach employed by the government, there is nothing in the horizon that suggests the agitation is about to be silenced. So much lives have been lost as a result of the violence arising from government attitude to the imbroglio. Yet the more people the government kill in the suppression, the more emboldened the agitators get.
