The Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, has shown loyalty to the cabals that call the shots in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the country in general.
His loyalty to the cabals began in 2019, when he led tugs to invade the usually called “hallowed chambers” of the National Assembly. His tugs hijacked the Senate mess in a broad day light while the house was seating.
Right in front of the then Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who could only but mop as the fearsomely looking tugs pounds on the mace, the official symbol of authority of the Nigerian Senate and took it away.
Senator Agege was the agent who the cabals used to send this clear message to the PDP stalwarts and all opposition forces who were standing in their way. The message was very simple – we are in charge of the country, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
For this brazen discretion of the Senate chambers, Senator Agege and his co-travelers faced no form of recrimination from any quarters. On the contrary, he was rewarded with the office of the Deputy Senator President in the next session of the House after the 2019 election.
Again, the Deputy Senate President has been rewarded for his continued loyalty even while occupying the second highest office in the senate.
Senator was this time elected the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State. However, some of his critics may doubt how he can surmount the challenges ahead of him in the 2023 election.
APC candidates face daunting challenges in the coming elections going by how the party has lead the country under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Omo-Agege, who polled a total of 1,190 votes, was returned unopposed by a total of 1,235 accredited delegates of the party during the primaries held on Thursday in Asaba.
The event which was held at the premises of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Asaba, saw Omo-Agege as the sole aspirant in the exercise.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Mrs Oyibo Nwaneri, declared him winner having polled majority of the votes cast.
On his victory, Omo-Agege expressed joy over the smooth conduct of the primaries and thanked his supporters and the entire APC family in Delta.
