Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Monday said, some politicians campaigning ahead of the 2023 presidential election do not mean well for the country.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Monday said, some politicians campaigning ahead of the 2023 presidential election do not mean well for the country and are only planning to loot the nation`s treasury.

Wike who spoke at the flag off of internal road constructions at Rumuesara, Eneka in Obio/Akpor LGA, said he is in a privileged position to know better.

The governor promised to reveal the identities of the concerned persons at the appropriate time so that Nigerians can use their votes wisely and reject them at the pools.

Governor Wike’s view was made known in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, the governor spoke at the commencement of the construction of internal roads at Rumuesara, Eneka town in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Governor Wike in the statement, noted that some people are putting themselves together to take leadership of the country only to loot what is left over from previous looters.

Nyesom Wike in the statement, further boasted that he is privileged to know what is happening and will reveal various information he is privy to, to the people, but at the time of his chosen.

Governor Wike also pointed out that while his administration continues to begin construction and inaugurate projects for the people of the state, detractors keep sponsoring negative media campaigns against him.

The governor noted that in spite of distraction from his detractors, his government remained focus to providing good governance to the people of the state.

Speaking further, the Governor noted that it would be difficult for seasonal politicians who have never done anything to better the lots of Rivers electorate to come to them and solicit their votes.

NOTABLE QUOTES

In the statement, Governor Wike stated inter alia:

“Some other people are busy, putting themselves together on how they will take over leadership in Nigeria to loot the remaining ones these other people have already kept.”

“I’m privileged to know and, at the appropriate time, I will tell you who these people are. You need to know what is happening in Nigeria.”

“Forget about all these people running around saying they want to rescue or save you (Nigeria). Just watch to see what is going to happen next.”

“All of us should be calm concerning what is happening in the PDP. In fact, nothing has happened yet. But by the grace of God, something will happen.”

“Look at us concentrating on giving our people good governance. What is good governance? Good governance is making the people to be happy. Good governance is providing infrastructure for the people. Good governance is not about party. Providing good governance is about leadership. We are here every day flagging off projects, commissioning projects even though our tenure is coming to an end,”

Recall that Governor Wike has been in a running battle with the PDP at the national level and her 2023 presidential election.

Just last week, Governor Wike held meetings in London with the APC Governorship candidate, the Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi and former president Olusegun Obasanjo before meeting with the PDP candidate Atiku Abubakar.

Governor Nyesom Wike’s non committal posture to the PDP 2023 presidential candidate has remained a source of worry to the party. Although some of the supporters of PDP flagbearer has diminish the importance of Wike to their chances at poll.

However, the more they try, the more his importance steer them in the face. Some PDP chieftains who have tried to disparage Nyesom Wike lately got a larger those of their own medicine from the fiercely talking Wike.

COMMENTARY

Indeed interesting times lie ahead of us as we navigate through 2023 elections, especially the February presidential election.
