The Israeli Defense Forces have announced a record-breaking breakthrough in lesser weapon capability. The country says it has recorded a successful test of a new laser weapon with advanced capacity to blast airborne threats out of the sky.
This breakthrough is following many years of research and trial, which has now paid off with “a working prototype of a high-powered laser gun that can intercept rockets, mortar shells, drones and anti-tank missiles in flight”, the New York Times has reported.
The NYT reports that the new weapon already passed a recent series of tests, which were carried out at the southern Israeli desert.
In the said tests, a life fire drill with the record-breaking weapon was reported to have successfully destroyed a rocket, a mortar shell and a drone.
Therefore, immediately provoking a standing ovation from the Israeli officials who were monitoring the test on a screen.
Naftali Bennett, the Israeli Prime Minister has as recent as last week described the laser weapon as a “strategic game changer” for the Israeli Defense Forces and the region.
The weapon has caused the Israeli government hundreds of millions of dollars in its development
Following this breakthrough the Prime Minister has promised the deployment of the new weapon “to surround Israel with a laser wall.”
The laser weapon is referred to as Iron-Beam, a name after Israel`s very successful Israel’s ground-based laser air defense system named Iron-Dome, which is a very popular and battle tested short-range missile, as well as medium- and long-range missile interception weapon system.
Israel`s arch enemy, the Lebanon based Hezbollah is said to be developing precision-guided missiles in Lebanon according the Israel intelligence network.
Hezbollah is regarded by the United States and the West as a terrorist organisation, but supported and sponsored by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which the US also labels as a state sponsor of terrorism.
