In a few months from now, Israel will be holding her 5th election since 2019, just within a period of only 3 years.

This is following the collapse of the current government formed by a coalition of unlikely bird follows, and under the leadership of Naftali Bennett, current Israeli Prime Minister.

Local media reports monitored by Clariform reporters have disclosed this imminent collapse, which will lead to the stepping down of Naftali Bennett from the premiership.

In his (Naftali Bennett) place, the current Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid will step in as the new Prime Minister of Israeli until the new election, which is expected to hold between September and November 2022.

Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid have both agreed to “dissolve parliament, triggering a new election, and Lapid will in the meantime take over as Prime Minister, an official said, confirming local media reports”.

A vote will be held in parliament next week, after which Lapid will take over the premiership, the official said. The takeover of government by Lapid is in line with the agreement between Lapid and Benneth, which requires him to hold forth in the event of collapse of the coalition.

Lapid will remain in charge during the period of the new election and the period of negotiations for formation of a new government, which sometimes could be challenging and full of uncertainty.

Lapid and Bennett in June 2021 had formed an unlikely coalition after two years of political stalemate, ending the record reign of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The government of right-wing, liberal and Muslim Arab parties was fragile from the start due to inconsistency in ideology. The only thing that the coalition parties had in common was the ouster of Benjamin Netanyahu.

With a razor-thin parliamentary majority and divided on major policy issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and state and religion issues, the eight-faction alliance began to fracture when a handful of members abandoned the coalition.

The government’s parliamentary majority was soon lost giving rise to instability of the government, which left no doubt that the collapse of the coalition was imminent, and in fact, the Naftali Bennett premiership was heading south.

The current development have handed the former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a political live line.

His political party, the Likud Party is currently leading in poll in Israel, after he left office in June, following the successful formation of government by the coalition led by Bennett.

However, Netanyahu`s path back to power in Israel is still very much unclear.
