President Muhammadu Buhari has finally let the cat out of the bag. After holding his card very close to this chest for a long time, the President has made it known to all who wants to know that the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan is his anointed successor.
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu announced this on Monday at the meeting of National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja.
This is contrary to the open declaration of some governors from the North who are also of the APC. 11 of these Northern governors publicly endorsed the choice of a Southerner as the APC flag bearer for the presidential election.
However, the choice of the Senate President became a strong possibility when he ventured into the raise for the APC ticket, almost at late stage for the declaration of interest.
With his closeness to President Buhari, many would not have expected Senator Lawan to purchase the highly expensive APC nomination form without a clear path to emerging victorious in the contest.
As the party goes into the already schedule primaries tonight, nothing is clear on how the other candidates will respond to this development.
All eyes are on the rest of the contenders for the ticket tonight to see how their reaction will be as those behind Senator Ahmed Lawan will be required to officially confirm his candidacy in the party`s convention slated to end tonight.
