President Muhammadu Bruhari was on Thursday morning lampooned on national television for his comment, laying blame on the Nigerian intelligence community over the Kuje correctional center attack, where the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) conducted a successful jailbreak that released up to 64 members of the Boko Haram terrorists group, and many other criminal inmates from the facility.

While visiting the facility on Wednesday the president displayed his displeasure with the unfortunate incident, while condemning the security architecture in the area as well as the Nigerian security agencies for their failure of duty.

The president was quoted as saying in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu that he is “disappointed with the intelligence system”. President Buhari asked, “How can terrorists organise, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it?”

In a swift reaction on Channels TV on Thursday, a member of the House of Representative, Hon Dachung Bagos, who is also a member National Security and intelligence Committee of the House, lampooned the president for his failures in the area of security in the country.

“The disappointment is that Nigerians, and our constituents are disappointed in the president, because, in the sense that if he is disappointed in the intelligence community, we are disappointed in him for not handling and addressing the intelligence community”, Hon Dachung said.

Speaking further he said “We have called for the sack of NSA because the NSA to us does not have the capacity to handle the issue of insecurity in the country. Number one, he is a junior officer to most of the service chiefs.

“So if he is complaining that when he calls for a meeting for with the service chiefs they don’t appear it is the issue of hierarchy…Something is wrong with the security architecture, which we have provided solutions for in the house.

“The disappointment is that Nigerians, and our constituents are disappointed in the president, because… if he is disappointed in the intelligence community, we are disappointed in him for not handling and addressing the intelligence community.

“Because by 24, or more than 24hrs after what happened in Kuje nobody has been sacked. Nobody is been interrogated. Only media talk. That is not how it is done.

The honourable also tried to compare the Kuje prison break incident with gun violence situation in the United States, where attackers are apprehended in a jiffy and prosecuted, thereby giving justice to the victims.

He said, “The Chicago shooting on July 4th, the person has been apprehended, and not just apprehended, but is now facing 7 count charge already. So people and American have confidence in the government.

“They are not talking about how perpetrators will be brought to book, but that justice will be brought to people who were killed.”

“However in Nigeria we are still talking about bringing perpetrators to book and 64 Boko Haram members who were released, none of them have been captured at this moment and nobody has been sacked because of it.”
