A chieftain of the New Nigerian People`s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Buba Galadima and a major supporter of Mr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP presidential candidate, have said that rather than aim for the office of the president, Mr Peter Obi should instead fit the role of a Vice President.
Buba is of the opinion that Mr Obi is best fit for the role of the a vice president because he has good knowledge of the economy.
Clariform reports that it has become a custom in Nigeria since 1999, under the former president Olusegun Obasanjo to assign the coordination of the nation`s economy to the office of the vice president.
The NNPP chieftain was speaking on the topical issue of merger between the NNPP and the Labour Party (LP), a comment that Peter Obi have responded to, saying that “If I am qualified to be vice president, I am also qualified to be president” said Peter Obi.
The NNPP flagbearer Mr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, have confirmed the ongoing negotiation for merger, but have also said that the discussion can only work if the LP candidate steps down to join his ticket as his running mate.
Buba Galadimma speaking on this same line spoke strongly on why he thinks the Labour party candidate should step down from his ambition to become president and instead run with Kwankwaso to become Vice president.
However, the same reason for which Galadima thinks Mr Peter Obi fits the office of the vice president is the same problem that the choice of who become the next president should be based on, according the Labour Party flagbearer, Peter Obi.
Referring to Buba Galadima`s comment, Obi said, “Let me take Alhaji Buba Galadima`s comment. He said I am competent to be the Vice President because of my knowledge of the economy. Let me tell you, Nigerian problem is the economy.
“So, why do you want to take the person who has knowledge of what the problem is to be vice. That is what am saying, you want to use the people who should be on reserve bench to start the match? No.
“If I am qualified to be vice president, I am also qualified to be president” said Peter Obi.
