ASUU STRIKE: The country may experience total compliance with the two-day solidarity strike called upon by the Nigerian Labour union in support of the Academic Union of Universities (ASUU), which have been on strike for over 5 months now.

There is a growing support for ASUU in the union`s insistence for resolution of all lingering issues that necessitated the lingering industrial action by the lecturers of the nation`s public tertiary institutions.

The latest to show support to the teacher`s union is the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which is now voicing support for the solidarity strike action being organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The leadership of the students union is currently mobilizing Nigerian students to fully support the two-day short down of the country to show solidarity with the striking lecturers.

The nationwide strike action, which is organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, is scheduled for the 26th and 27th of July.

Notable Quotes:

The leadership of NANS disclosed their support for the nationwide strike through a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by the president of the association, Comrade Sunday Asefon.

“While NANS has organised various protests in the past with no substantial results, also our advocacy and consultation has not yielded any desirable result. We have activated political solution and we are very hopeful that an end is in the purview,”he said.

Speaking further, he said, “However, we are in total support of the planned protest by NLC as we believe this will stem up the advocacy and assist in no mean measure to put adequate pressure on the Federal Government to do all that is required to stop the strike.”

“I, therefore, direct all NANS structures across the country to mobilise and join NLC protest.

” NANS will only be involved in the mobilization of students to the protest sites and will act based on the direction provided by the NLC.

” NANS structures across the country shall submit to the leadership of NLC all through the protest,” he further said.

Takeaway:

The NANS president, Comrade Sunday Asefon has commended the leadership of the NLC for their dedication to the fight of ASSU for the betterment of the Nigerian students.

The student`s union therefore, urged all Nigerian students to join forces with well-meaning Nigerians to advocate for the end of the protracted ASUU strike by preparing to join the NLC nationwide strike.
