In a bid to revolutionize its addressing system and harness the potential of digital technology, the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is gearing up to launch a groundbreaking Digital Postcode and Address Verification System (AVS).
The move, set to take effect by October this year, aims to tackle revenue generation challenges, enhance security, and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
Hon. Sunday Adepoju, the Postmaster General of the Federation and CEO of NIPOST, revealed this strategic shift during a recent press conference in Abuja.
Recognizing the significance of embracing digital solutions in the contemporary landscape, Adepoju emphasized that the implementation of the Postcode and AVS initiatives marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards operational efficiency and modernization.
Adepoju stressed the comprehensive benefits of the National Digital Alphanumeric Postcode System, stating, “This initiative holds immense potential to revolutionize service delivery across the nation.
By employing advanced digital technologies and collaborative efforts with partners such as the National Population Commission, National Space Research and Development Agency, and others, NIPOST aims to not only boost revenue but also address pressing challenges like crime prevention, identity fraud, emergency services coordination, and e-commerce.”
The ambitious project has garnered support from various quarters, including the National Population Commission (NPC). Nasir Kwarra, the Chairman of NPC, expressed unwavering commitment to the initiative’s success.
The project’s technical partners, Micheal Akinlose and Taslim Salaudeen, highlighted the transformative potential of the Address Verification System, suggesting that its impact on Nigeria’s national development and economy could be profound.
As the nation braces for the rollout of the Digital Postcode and AVS, expectations are high for a significant shift in how addressing systems operate, streamline processes, and contribute to Nigeria’s growth trajectory.
This move signifies a step towards harnessing digital solutions for crucial sectors, echoing the broader global trend of leveraging technology for enhanced efficiency and innovation.
