Rishi Sunak, the UK Chancellor of Exchequer, equivalent of Nigeria`s Minister of Finance has twitted his continued support for the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
This is, as the Prime Minister faces a no confidence vote tonight from his peers in the Conservatives Party.
Boris Johnson has been in troubled waters following revelations that, while the rest of the UK stayed indoors on orders of the Boris led Tory government, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister had parties and ceremonies.
These parties were in clear violation of government own COVID-19 guidelines. When confronted with these allegations initially, Boris Johnson lied before the parliament.
Tory members have now reached a minimum number of MPs required before a no confidence vote can be taken against a sitting Prime Minister.
However, in a tweet on Monday, Rishi Sunak said he stays in support of the Prime Minister for the leadership he has provided for the UK in response to the COVID-19 and the Russia aggression in Ukraine.
“From the vaccine rollout to our response to Russian aggression, the PM has shown the strong leadership our country needs.
“I am backing him today and will continue to back him as we focus on growing the economy, tackling the cost of living and clearing the Covid backlogs”, the Chancellor tweeted on Monday.
