The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been knocked severally from politicians of the southern Nigeria extraction, who seeks for power shift to the zone in 2023.
The stiffest opposition to his aspiration to clinch the PDP presidential ticket was mostly from the people of the zone who argued it was their turn to produce the PDP flagbearer and not the North.
Long after the PDP primary was won and lost at the party`s convention at Abuja, people of the zone are still bitter and have never hidden their anger on how the PDP north conspired against the south to deny them of their close victory at the convention election night.
Now it seems this desire for the South to produce Nigeria`s next president have not seen the last of it, as moves and still been made to see to the realization of this project.
The latest protest against the emergence of Atiku Abubakar is coming from no other person than Mr Peter Ayo Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti state, who is now openly fronting for the opposition parties who have a southern presidential candidate for the February 2023 election.
Foyose in a tweet today, obtained by Clariform is calling for a southerner to succeed the current President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.
As a member of the biggest opposition party, the PDP, which has their own presidential ticket, the former governor of Ekiti State is committing what could be called “anti-party activity.”
Ayo Fayose a southerner from the South West contested in the PDP primary, but was unsuccessful just as other southern aspirants. He was unable to secure any vote of the party delegates, even out of the 16 PDP delegates from Ekiti State, who were alleged to have voted for Atiku.
In two viral tweets from his verified tweeter handle on Wednesday, which were posted at 2:55 PM and 3:06 PM respectively from an android phone, he wrote:
“The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by “adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness”, wrote Fayose
“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should await details soon”, Fayose added.
Fayose said that Nigerians should await details soon”, therefore, leaving everyone to remain guessing where he is likely going to throw his support and allegiance next.
Some opinions are that the vociferous PDP chieftain may be angling towards supporting the APC candidate, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a fellow Yoruba man from the South West. The reason could be found on the same tweet – “awa south lo kan” — which in direct translation means “it is the turn of the south”.
Clariform reminds our readers that this catchphrase is in agreement to Tinubu`s outburst at Ogun State where he boasted of making Buhari the president he is today. In the same remark the APC National leader also boasted that for the Buhari`s successor, “it is the turn of the south west”.
Another twist to Fayose`s tweet can also be found in the several photos which adorns his twitter handle – the pictures of him and the Labour Party candidate, Mr Peter Obi, a man he share same first name with.
Fayose has before the election spoken very glowingly of the qualities of the former Anambra two term governor, urging that he (Peter Obi) is the most qualified of all the candidates vying to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
As Nigerian continue to guess and ponder, in not too distant time, everyone will know exactly where Mr Fayose`s allegiance will swing to for the February 2023 presidential election.
