Prof. Yemi Oke, a law professor has asked the Abuja High Court de-register the Peoples Democratic Party ()PDP over its alleged inability to pay professional legal fees of N260m.
The Independent National Electoral Commission is also joined in the suit seeking for the deregistration of the biggest opposition party in the country.
Prof. Yemi Oke and his law firm, MJS Partners are the claimants in the suit No FCT/959/2020 seeking for an order of court instructing INEC to de-register PDP for defaulting to pay its debt in professional fees.
According to the motion on notice dated August 25, 2022 filed by the applicants, Prof. Yemi Oke and his law firm are seeking some reliefs, which includes:
An order of the court to de-register the first respondent for unethical practices and an order of the court directing the second respondent to deregister first respondent.
The claimants are also demanding an order of the court entering judgment in favour of the applicants in the sum of N260m being the legal fees for the matters handled for the first respondent.
Prof. Yemi claimed that the PDP engaged the legal services of his law firm to act as its counsel in about 17 cases without payment of legal fees for the services rendered till date, the plaintiffs have alleged.
As at the time of reporting, no date has been fixed for the hearing of the motion.
