While the woman alleges that Okahim owes money running into millions of naira for luxury goods, the former governor accuses her of attacking him in a hotel room in Abuja. Their case has led to several suits and insinuations from both sides.

The said Chinyere Igwegbe also alleges fraud against Ohakin relating to some land transaction in Lagos State. Also alleged by the woman was harassment and extortion by Ohakin due to a nude video of her showing her genitals in the possession of Ohakim. She alleged that the former governor is threatening to go public with the video.

  • As far back as October 2020, Ohakim`s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor speaking on behalf of his client rejected and denied that Ohakim was ever charged by the police for any offence.
  • In a statement, Okahim`s lawyer also alleged that the said Chinyere Igwegbe wrote “four different Petitions against Dr Ohakim, respectively before the Nigeria Police (Lagos Command), the Inspector-General of Police (Abuja), the National Agency For Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of Nigerian Police Force (Abuja).
  • Ohakim also through same Barr Aloy Ejimakor in September 2020 approached the High Court of Imo for “temporary injunctions against Ms Amuchienwa-Igwegbe and other respondents in relation to her said Petitions”.

The petition is titled – “Unlawful and malicious prosecution, harassment, intimidation, defamation and false information against Dr. Ikedi Ohakim at the behest of Ms. Chinyere Amuchienwa-Igwegbe,”.
  • The police have now filed four count charge against the said Chinyere Igweke at Federal High Court FCT,Abuja.

  • Ikedi Ohakim was charged under the regime of the former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, while Ms. Chinyere Amuchienwa-Igwegbe under the current IGP.

NOTABLE QUOTE

“That the nude video upon which our client is now being charged be subjected to a thorough forensic investigation to determine, between our client and Igwegbe, who made the video; whether the video is real or photoshopped, who first sent the video out from the device with which it was made and the person(s) to whom the video was sent and when?” … BARR ALOY EJIMAKOR, COUNSEL TO OHAKIM.

WHAT WE ARE WATCHING

We are watching very closely because it does not seem like the last have been heard about this case. We are monitoring to understand how an accused person became the accuser and vice versa.

The fact that Ikedi Ohakim was arrested and charged during the regime of the former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, but now seems to have upper hand in the case after the regime change is a relevant point.
