Ibrahim Shekarau is one of the politicians who formed the APC in 2013, Clariform can report. Nevertheless, he has moved so much around as a politician in manners that questions if he actually has a political home anywhere.

He was a member of the All Nigeria Peoples Party when he was elected governor between 2003 and 2011. He, however, defected to the PDP in 2014.

The former governor announced his defection from the NNPP to PDP at his Kano residence with PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, and governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa witnessing the announcement and onground to welcome him back to the party.

According to Shekarau he has written to inform NNPP excos of his intention to decamp from the party.

In his words, “Myself and thousands of my followers have defected to the People Democratic Party, and are now bona fide members of the PDP.”

“I have formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that I am no longer a senatorial candidate under the NNPP.”

Shekarau said he will work to make sure Atiku Abubakar wins Kano and other core northern states as well as the remaining states across the country.

Mr Ayu, PDP’s national chairman who was also on ground to receive the Kano Politician back to the PDP fold subsequently registered him as a member of the party saying:

“It is my happiest day because Kano is strategic to the success of the party”

According to Mr. Ayu, Shekarau he is a selfless leader who believes in teamwork as he has demonstrated this by abandoning his senatorial ambition to satisfy his people

According to Ayu, “The PDP always believed in teamwork and will never be an individualistic entity of any person.”

Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Darius Ishaku of Taraba State were some of the governors at the event.

Walid Jibril , member of PDP’s board of Trustees was also in attendance.

Other politician present are former Vice President, Namadi Sambo; former Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu, and former Minister of Transport, Idris Umar; Ahmad Babba-Kaita, Senator for Katsina North District, and former lawmakers, Dino Melaye, and Shehu Sani.

Former Governors of Jigawa, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, and Adamawa, Sule Lamido, Saminu Turaki, Attahiru Bafarawa, Shehu Shema, Ahmad Makarfi, and Boni Haruna also attended the event.
