Following the disclosure of the plan by the United States to send long range artillery to Ukraine to help booster the country`s defenses against the invading Russian army, the former Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev have implied that this new development could mean the beginning of the end for the world.
In an interview with Doha based Al Jazeera, Medvedev who is now the Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman, have sent a very serious warning to the West that Russia could target a new target outside of Ukraine if the long range weapon supplied by America is used to hit any target inside Russia.
This threat could easily mean that Russia will be hitting a target in the West and perhaps a NATO territory. This by virtue of article of the NATO treaty will provoke immediate response from the US and all NATO members.
President Biden have said recently that the United will engage directly in military conflict with Russia if it attacks any NATO member.
The new weapon, which the United States have agreed to deliver to Ukraine is an advanced rocket systems that can strike with precision at long-range distance against a target deep inside Russian territory.
BACKGROUND
The high mobility artillery rocket systems as it is referred to in military parlance is so modern with greater capacity and accurately to hit targets as far away as 80 km (50 miles). The weapon is as part of a $700 million military subvention packaged for Ukraine by the US.
President Biden has earlier indicated that weapons with ability to hit targets into Russian territory will not be supplied to Ukraine. This is in other to avoid any further escalation of the war, and also avoid the possibility of the war expanding to NATO territory.
This first announcement by President was then described by the former Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev as “rational”.
However, last Wednesday the US president changed course and announced that the said weapon system will now be delivered to Ukraine after the country committed to not using it to target Russian territory.
RUSSIA`S APPOCALAPSES THREAT
In the aftermath of this change of course by President Biden, Medvedev has now also spoken out and now threatens that Russia will hit targets outside Ukraine if Russian territory is attacked with the US long-range weapons.
The former Russia Prime Minister therefore warns that the world may be getting closer to a nuclear war, while adding that “The Horsemen of the Apocalypse are already on their way and all hope now is with Lord God the Almighty,’.
Medvedev`s reference was from the Bible, Revelation 6:1-8, which New International Version (NIV) reads:
“I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.
“When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds[a] of wheat for a day’s wages,[b] and six pounds[c] of barley for a day’s wages,[d] and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
“When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!”.
“I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.”
NOTABLE QUOTES
In the Al Jazera interview Dmitry Medvedev said:
“If, God forbid, these weapons are used against Russian territory then our armed forces will have no other choice but to strike decision-making centres.
“Of course, it needs to be understood that the final decision-making centres in this case, unfortunately, are not located on the territory of Kyiv.”
